Individual Note: Johann came to Pennsylvania on the Ship "Peggy" in Sept. 24th 1753,one of 216 passengers.
In 1753, he joined others emigrating from the Palatinate and embarkedfor America at Rotterdam, Holland, on the Enlish ship "Peggy", CaptainJames Abercrombie, master. He arrived at the port of Philadelphia,Pa., where he took the British oath of allegiance on Sept. 25, 1753.The ship list fives his age as 30 years.
On July 16, 1754, he advertised himself in ChristopherSauer's newspaper as a German School and Mathematics teacher, andannounced that he wa conducting a night school both in the summer andwinter at Germantown, Pa. He was probably engaged in teaching for anumber of years.
According to the "Hallische Nachrichten" he was anadherent of the doubtful Conrad Andreas, pastor of the oldGoshenhoppen Church from 1743 to 1750, and of the Germantown Churchfrom 1750 to 1753. It issupposed that Rev. Leitzel wa ordained byAndreas, and since this ordination was thought by many to beirregular, even those turbulent times, he was never, seeminglyrecognized by the Lutheran Ministerium of Pennsylvania, the oldestLuthran body in America. This would class him as an independentminster Twp., Bucks Co.,Pa. Just how long before he served there isnot known. The date of his service there is usually supposed to havebeen from 1760 to 1765. The first baptism recorded by him there wason Dec. 18.1760. The last he was heard of as a minister was in 1769,when he was preaching at the Salisbury Church.
